Unlike other sites, we're here to help you find the support you want and what ever supplies you'll need to help you get through your illness.
Created by one who's been there, I'd like to help you...
As a fifteen year cancer survivor of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, I remember all to well what it felt like to be diagnosed with cancer. The fear that kicked in wondering if you would be able to beat the disease or if it would beat you and you would die were overwhelming. The scary part back then was that I didn't have anywhere to turn for information. Sure I could read book after book but it wasn't the same as having a person to turn to who had already gone through it themselves and could give me the reassurance that I could handle whatever was thrown at me. Someone who could tell me what the tests would be like, how I might react to the treatments and how I could expect to feel would have been a blessing to me. For ten years now, I have thought about putting this site together just to give anyone who is now in the place that I once was, some hope. As this site grows, I will be adding as much information as I can to arm you with whatever you may need to help you get through your cancer. I will also be listing companies that I've purchased supplies like wigs, hats, scarves etc. from, to give you the one place for you to go to make your life as easy as possible during this time.
I recommend that you either bring someone along with you or you bring a tape recorder when you go to the doctors office. There just may be a moment when you're sitting there listening to what they have to say, and your brain shuts down and you suddenly stop hearing what the doctor is telling you. It happened to me. My mind refused to take in anymore of what he was saying. From that moment on I learned about my cancer from reading about it. There are a great many books out there covering the subject. They can be a wealth of information. And information is POWER!! Learn about your illness. Don't believe that the doctors are going to tell you everything because they won't! The radiologist I went to didn't even have my personal information correct. This wasn't even realized until I needed to pick up copies of my records to transfer to another doctors office. I couldn't believe how far off they were. They just didn't care. My point to you is, please find a doctor that you like. One you feel comfortable with. They can make this whole ordeal easier to deal with, and if you feel like you're in good hands, than you'll be able to concentrate on healing.
My recommendations to you would be this:
Eat- Just because your ill, doesn't mean that you have to give up living. Yes there are certain things
that you might want to work into your diet that will help your healing process along, but you still have to enjoy life so just keep everything in moderation. Food
is good for the soul!!
Laugh- A lot!! They say laughter is the best medicine, and they aren't kidding. Go out and rent
as many funny movies as you want. It doesn't even matter if you've seen them before, if you like them, then watch them again.
Sleep- Your body is going to be tired. More than you can imagine. You might be sitting there one
minute just fine and the next you won't be able to keep your eyes open. So get plenty of rest.
Keep Your Hopes Up- Tackle each day with the "Bring it on" attitude. Believe it or not, it will help you feel stronger.
Talk About Your Illness- Don't keep it bottled up inside you. Find someone you can talk to. If you can't find someone at your doctors office, a family member or friend, then write to me. I won't care if you email me several times a day. I'll answer you! You can create your own support group right here! On top of that, you might be able to help someone else who might be going through the same thing you are. Wouldn't that be great!
Avoid To Much Stress- Stress kills, no doubt about it. So just tell yourself that you're not dealing
with that today, and move on to positive thinking.
And most of all, Never give up!
